About YISAC

Young Investigators' Seminar on Analytical Chemistry, YISAC 2020, is the continuation of a series of international conferences. It is intended to be an international conference for young scientists in a rather advanced state of their study, usually post-graduate, such as master or PhD study together with their supervisors. The main objective of the YISAC conference series is to prepare young analytical chemists for their future scientific life, such as attendance of international symposia, representation of own research achievements, project proposals, etc.

The scientific programme includes oral presentations only (around 15 minutes) with subsequent discussion to each contribution (around 5 minutes). The conference is divided into individual sessions presided by a student chairlady/chairman. Participants are also involved in cultural and social programme of the conference.

To achieve the envisaged goals YISAC has a few particular characteristics:
  • the subject of the presentation must be analytical chemistry or some borderline topic;
  • the event focuses mainly on master and doctoral students;
  • only oral presentations are accepted;
  • the conference is structured as individual sessions which are headed by students;
  • the participants are integrated into some cultural and social program to effect some personal approach;
  • basically there are no conference fees; the participants must cover their costs by their own (usually funded by the sending institution);
  • each YISAC event is accompanied by a supervisors' dinner and a conference dinner; during the supervisors' dinner current problems are discussed, and a decision is made about the next venue for the conference;
  • Sponsors are cordially welcome!

History of YISAC

The conference “Young Investigators' Seminar on Analytical Chemistry”, YISAC, started in 1994. The idea was born by Dr. Božidar Ogorevc (National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana, Slovenia) and Prof. Dr. Kurt Kalcher (University Graz, Austria) to add one more facette to the landscape of existing conferences and primarily focussing on young students. The main goal is to offer a platform to students (master, phD) to present their work to gather experience on public presentations and discussions.
